On February 25, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, the head of the National Commission on International Humanitarian Aid Ali Hasanov met with the delegation led by the EU Special Representative for Human Rights Stavros Lambrinidis. Deputy Prime Minister gave information to the delegation of Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, history of the problem, situation of refugees and internally displaced persons in the country. Deputy Prime Minister brought to the attention that as a result of Armenian military aggression against Azerbaijan, 20 percent of the lands- Nagorno Karabakh and 7 adjacent administrative regions were occupied, more than one million people became refugees and IDPs, all the infrastructures were destroyed. Committee Chairman stated that continuing the occupation of our lands for 20 years Armenia has achieved nothing. During this period Armenia's economy has fallen into a difficult situation At the meeting it was emphasized that Azerbaijani Government carries out great works in the socio-economic field to meet the needs of refugees and internally displaced persons. 89 modern settlements have been built at the expense of funds allocated by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan Republic. 240 thousand refugees and internally displaced persons have been moved to the new settlements and this process is being continued. Azerbaijan Government has prepared a program of Great Return of IDPs to Karabakh. All the representatives of embassies, international organizations and state bodies have been involved in the development of this program. Special Representative of European Union for Human Rights Stavros Lambrinidis noted that the purpose of visit is to strengthen the relations between Azerbaijan and Europe in all fields, including the field of human rights. Pointing out the active cooperation between the European Union and Azerbaijan, Stavros Lambrinidis stressed that his visit to Azerbaijan will be important.
