Works done to improve the living conditions of refugees and IDPs in Azerbaijan were highly appreciated

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the State Committee on Deals of Refugees and IDPs, Chairman of the Republican Commission on International Humanitarian Aid Ali Hasanov met with the Delegation led by EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Herbert Salber on October 21. The Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov gave information about Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the history of this conflict and the situation of refugees and internally displaced persons in our country. Ali Hasanov stressed that UN Security Council adopted four resolutions on the release of occupied territories of Azerbaijan, return of refugees and internally displaced persons to their native lands. The aggressive policy of Armenia was criticized in the decisions and resolutions adopted by Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Non-Aligned Movement and other influential international organizations. Unfortunately, these decisions and resolutions still remain on paper. Chairman of the Committee pointed out that aggressive Armenia achieved nothing by keeping our territories under occupation over last 20 years. During this period the economy of Armenia has worsened. Armenian people also gained nothing from this conflict; instead they lost a lot in past 20 years. The Deputy Prime Minister said that the government of Azerbaijan is doing great works both in legal and socio-economical fields in order to meet the needs of refugees and IDPs. At the expense of the fund allocated by the State Oil Fund of the Republic of Azerbaijan 210 thousand refugees and IDPs were relocated to the new settlements and this process continues. Herbert Salber said that the cooperation between EU and Azerbaijan successfully develops and noted the importance of the settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict in a peaceful, fair manner and in accordance with the norms of international law. He highly appreciated the works done to improve the social conditions of refugees and internally displaced persons and emphasized that his visit to Azerbaijan will be of great importance. Armenia – Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict and the problems of refugees and IDPs emerged as a result of this conflict, the improvement of their living conditions, current situation in the solution of the conflict and other issues of mutual interest were discussed during the meeting. “Care of President to refugees and internally displaced persons” book and CD were presented to the guests. After the meeting the Delegation came to the neighborhood built for 760 internally displaced families in Masazir settlement of Absheron district and familiarized with 280-seat “Shafaq” kindergarten, 540-seat secondary school No. 33 of Zangilan district and History-Ethnography Museum of Zangilan district, interested in the living conditions of internally displaced families. After then Delegation met with the IDPs settled in the dormitory of Management and Technology College in Binagadi district.
