The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the opening of a new settlement for 632 IDP families in Agdam.

On August 6, President Ilham Aliyev has attended the opening of a new settlement for 632 IDP families in Agdam district. In recent years, dozens of decrees and orders were signed by the President, various laws were approved in order to improve the legal base relating to the social protection of internally displaced persons. The "State Program for improving the living conditions and increasing employment of refugees and IDPs" was approved by the Decree signed by the head of state. About 80 settlements and neighborhoods consisting of multi-storey buildings were built; nearly 25 thousand internally displaced families were provided with apartments during the years of 2003-2013. Dozens of school buildings with all infrastructures, kindergarten, medical facility and post office have been built in these years. According to the information for August 2014, 83 modern settlements consisting of 42 thousand flats were built for this kind of people. So, the housing condition of 42 thousand families or 190 thousand internally displaced families was improved. In 2014, it is expected to build 7 more settlements for 21 thousand people. 5,1 billion manats were allocated to settle the social problems of refugees and IDPs that 2,1 billion manats of this amount were spent on the improvement of their housing conditions. 1,8 billion manats of this amount were allocated by the State Oil Fund. Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Committee on Deals of Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov informed President Ilham Aliyev about the new settlement. It was noted that settlement was planned for 632 internally displaced families from Aghdam district. This is the 83th residential complex built for refugees and IDPs. A 50-seat kindergarten, an office building, a medical facility, a club, a community center and a post office including 632 houses were built in the settlement covering an area of 70 hectares. Extensive works performed regarding to the electricity, potable water and gas supply. 3,100 IDPs from Agdam who live in difficult conditions in the territory named “Dord Yol”, will be resettled to the new residential area. The President of Azerbaijan got acquainted with the conditions created in one of the house in settlement. The head of the state visited the kindergarten and interested in the conditions created here. President Ilham Aliyev watched the Chovgan game in the new settlement. The head of the state then visited the secondary school No.135 in the settlement. There are all conditions in school for the students to get education in the highest level. Classrooms have been provided with all necessary inventory and visuals aids. After getting acquainted with the new settlement, President Ilham Aliyev met with the representatives of Aghdam local community.
