A meeting was held at the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons with representatives of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society (AzRCS) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Azerbaijan Delegation.
Deputy Chairman of the State Committee, Fuad Huseynov, warmly welcomed the guests and provided them with information about the current activity areas of the the government body. It was noted that state support for refugees and internally displaced persons has always been a priority direction in the social policy of President Ilham Aliyev. First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva has also consistently demonstrated special sensitivity and attention to addressing their challenges. Under the leadership of the Head of State, the Great Return to the restored and newly built settlements in the territories liberated from occupation is currently being implemented.
Recalling that international organizations had supported Azerbaijan in resolving issues related to the problems of refugees and internally displaced persons, F. Huseynov emphasized the significance of cooperation with the IFRC in this regard. It was also noted that the partnership between the Committee and the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society, built on mutual trust, continues successfully.
In recent years, a number of important projects and awareness-raising activities have been implemented within the framework of cooperation between the State Committee and the AzRCS. As part of these activities, events related to mine hazards were organized in the cities of Barda, Fuzuli, and Sumgayit, as well as in the village of Jojuq Marjanli of Jabrayil district and in the Baharli settlement of Aghdam district. Additionally, as part of joint cooperation between the State Committee and the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society, training sessions on “Risk Awareness and Safe Behaviour” were conducted for internally displaced persons. During the sessions, held in both “door-to-door” and “school-based” formats, citizens were provided with detailed information on mine threats, warning signs, safety rules, and mechanisms for contacting relevant state authorities. More than 20,000 internally displaced persons took part in the trainings.
During the meeting, it was noted that significant progress has been achieved in strengthening the social protection of refugees and internally displaced persons and in the implementation of humanitarian and development-oriented projects.
The guests expressed their gratitude for the warm reception and stated that cooperation with the State Committee is long-term and productive. They also highly appreciated the reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts being carried out in the territories liberated from occupation, emphasizing the importance of continuing joint activities in the future.
