The Deputy Minister- the Chairman of State Refugee Committee Mr. Ali Hasanov, who received the representative of ECPA visiting our country with the aim to prepare the report on the topic of “Protection of Long Term Internally Displaced Persons’ Rights in Europe ” recalled with great respect and gratefulness the expansion of cooperation between this authoritative organization and Azerbaijan Republic and emphasized ECPA’s initiatives in disseminating Azerbaijani realities to world public and putting the number one priority issue of our country as a discussion topic within the organization, the secretary-general’s and other officials’ visit to Azerbaijan, meetings with our refugees and internally displaced persons in settlements of their location in different regions, and learning in place their unbearable living conditions and measures taken by Azerbaijani government on improvement of their living condition during recent years, he also noted that the purpose of the guests’ current visit is also the result of the desire to learn these kind of situations in place and to disseminate our realities to European public. Mr. Ali Hasanov, providing comprehensive information to the guest on the measures taken for resolving the problems of refugees and internally displaced persons specially highlighted that, currently there was established legal base regulating protection of rights and social security of refugees and internally displaced persons in Azerbaijan according to 1951 Convention and 1967 Protocol of United Nations High Commissariat on Refugees Affairs and all of these measures were developed up to international standards. Mr. Ali Hasanov, speaking about the activities related to resolving problems of refugees and internally displaced persons during last years, ways of overcoming the problems faced, the measures taken for defining their status and regulating their rights, and other issues interested the guests, also mentioned that, in order to effectively use the oil revenues the State Oil Fund established for this purpose plays an important role by forming the main purpose of organization and establishment of new settlements for refugees and internally displaced persons including social and technical infrastructure during last years and other activities taken for improvement of life conditions of people exiled from their native lands and their future return to the homelands. At the same time Mr. Ali Hasanov emphasizing the European Council’s great political authority expressed his assurance that the organization will not deny its best efforts in using the maximum of opportunities for resolving the conflict and for conveying the Azerbaijani realities to international public. Afterwards the guests watched the documentary movie reflecting the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh problem, the reasons of its beginning, historical roots, aggressive policy of Armenia dictated by their supporters , and, today’s realities, hard life conditions of refugees and internally displaced persons borne by them during all these years, and comprehensive conditions created for them today. During the meeting and the discussions the guest highly appreciating the feelings of internally displaced persons, whose only aim is to return to their native lands was interested in the actions taken in this direction. Within the frame of his travel agenda Mr. John Greenway met with refugees and internally displaced persons settled in the territory of Narimanov and Sabunchu rayons and during his meeting with Mr. Ali Hasanov he mentioned that the Azerbaijani Government signed up for a great progress on improvement of life conditions of internally displaced persons. The questions and opinions that rise mutual interest during the meeting were completely clarified and the issues that might support the resolving of the problem were main topics for the discussions.
