Chairman of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons Rovshan Rzayev met with a group of Azerbaijanis displaced from the city of Khankandi and the village of Karkijahan in Ganja.
At the meeting, it was noted with great satisfaction and pride that as a result of the decisive military-political and diplomatic efforts of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, during the 44-day Patriotic War, the lands of Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur were liberated from the occupation of Armenia and the Armenian formations and the so-called organization remaining in these territories were completely liquidated on September 19-20 of this year due to anti-terrorism measures carried out within 24 hours.
It was noted that our compatriots who were internally displaced from Khankandi will return to their own lands soon, and the measures implemented within the framework of the Great Return will also include them. It was said that President Ilham Aliyev always took care of internally displaced people and implemented measures to solve their social problems. It was emphasized that First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva was sensitive to the calls of our citizens in this category.
It was stated that large-scale projects have been implemented for the restoration and reconstruction of the areas liberated from occupation, and the necessary measures have been taken to ensure the voluntary, safe and dignified return of displaced persons. Up to now, more than 3,000 internally displaced persons have returned to their homeland, and the return is said to soon include residents of Khankandi. In addition to all this, it was emphasized that the mine problem still poses a threat to the life and health of the returning population and slows down the Great Return process.
Residents noted that they are ready to return to Khankandi and live in historical places again, expressed appreciation to the head of state and the military personnel of our valiant armed forces for the restoration of the state sovereignty of Azerbaijan in all territories liberated from occupation, prayed for God’s mercy to our martyrs who gave their lives for the just cause of our people, and for healing to our veterans.
The meeting was attended by representatives of internally displaced persons from Khankandi, intellectuals, and social activists who expressed their opinions and proposals on issues of preparing for return.
