27 years have passed since the occupation of Kalbajar region of Azerbaijan by the Armenian armed forces.
Kalbajar was occupied on April 2, 1993. As a result of the occupation, more than 53 thousand people were displaced from their native lands. 511 civilians were killed, 321 people were taken prisoner and went missing during the occupation.
Kalbajar is the largest among the occupied regions of Azerbaijan. As a result of occupation, the region center, about 150 villages, as well as dozens of historical and cultural monuments, one museum, sanatorium “Istisu” and other important structures were destroyed by the Armenian forces.
The UN Security Council adopted Resolution No. 822 at its 3205th meeting after the occupation of Kalbajar. The resolution requires the immediate withdrawal of all occupying forces from Kalbajar and other occupied regions of Azerbaijan. However, no obligations arising out of the same resolution have been performed so far.
Those difficult days are over. Regular measures are being taken to liberate Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding regions from occupation. Azerbaijani government is taking decisive measures to liberate our lands from occupation. In addition, purposeful measures are being taken today to improve the social welfare of refugees and IDPs and increase their living standards. Camp sites have already been removed and new settlements are being built. And this proves again that the Azerbaijani government, which has powerful, economically strong fundamentals, is able to overcome all the problems.
