On June 4, a meeting was held between Rovshan Rzayev, the Chairman of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and IDPs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Mrs. Sonia Fontaine, the country director of German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Azerbaijan. The work done by the state to address the social problems of refugees and IDPs in Azerbaijan was discussed at the meeting. The Chairman of the State Committee noted that important steps are being taken by the President Ilham Aliyev to address the social problems of refugees and IDPs and improve their housing and living conditions. The First Vice President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva also takes consistent and purposeful measures in this area. As a result, nearly 300 thousand IDPs were provided with new apartments. The Chairman of the State Committee expressed his gratitude to Mrs. Sonia Fontaine for the support provided to the projects related to refugees and IDPs and assistance to the solution of their problems through the German humanitarian organization. Sonia Fontaine, the head of the GIZ delegation, highly appreciated the current level of the German-Azerbaijani relations. She drew attention to the implementation of projects covering various areas between the two countries. The head of the delegation spoke about the importance of further development of relations. Detailed information was given about the project at the meeting and it was noted that the implementation of various activities within the project will create new income opportunities for IDPs. Later the joint project to be implemented by the GIZ and the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and IDPs was discussed. After the general acquaintance with the project, opportunities for its expansion were discussed. Confidence was expressed that the project will contribute to the development of bilateral relations. The parties exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
