On May 29, Rovshan Rzayev, the Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs met with Nikolas Lobel, the member of the Foreign Relations, Culture and Press Committees of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany, MP from CDU/ CSU (Christian Democratic Union and Christian Social Union) fraction. The Chairman of the State Committee stated that the bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Germany are developing successfully and there is a great cooperation between our countries. He thanked the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany for support in addressing the problems of refugees and IDPs in our country through the international humanitarian organizations representing this country. The Chairman of the State Committee gave detailed information about the work being carried out under the leadership of the President Ilham Aliyev to address the social problems of refugees and IDPs and improve their housing and living conditions. He noted that consistent and purposeful projects are being implemented in this direction at the initiative of the First Vice President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva. 98 modern-type settlements with all social and technical infrastructure and quarters consisting of high-rise residential buildings have been put into use in all regions of the country by now, and nearly 300 thousand IDPs have been relocated to those settlements. The Chairman of the State Committee underlined the importance of the “South” gas corridor, which was officially opened today as a result of the efforts, tremendous work and determined position of the President Ilham Aliyev. He noted that large-scale projects are being implemented in the region at the initiative of Azerbaijan. They discussed the historical roots of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the current political state, the problem of refugees and IDPs in our country and the work being carried out in this direction at the meeting. It was noted that the policy of occupation of Armenia prevents peace and stability in the region. Expressing his gratitude for the warm welcome, Nikolas Lobel underlined that the Azerbaijani government pays special attention to the German heritage in the country and noted that Germany highly appreciates it. He said that the work being done by the state to improve the living conditions of refugees and IDPs in Azerbaijan is praiseworthy. He spoke about witnessing a multicultural and tolerant atmosphere in our country. He said that this should be an example for other countries. This attitude is the cultural richness and the greatest wealth of Azerbaijan. The MP called Azerbaijan the door to the East for Germany. He emphasized that Germany is interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan, which integrates European values. The sides exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
