On May 22, Rovshan Rzayev, the Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs met with Ms. Elena Aymone Sessera, the Head of the ICRC Representative Office in Azerbaijan. Views were exchanged on mutual relations with the International Committee of the Red Cross, Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and humanitarian cooperation. Rovshan Rzayev, the Chairman of the State Committee, thanked recalling humanitarian programs implemented by the ICRC for IDPs displaced from their homeland as a result of the conflict, particularly their visit to Jojug Marjanli village of Jabrayil region liberated from the occupation, meetings with villagers and made discussions. In this regard, the support and assistance provided to Azerbaijan by the ICRC were highly appreciated and the importance of the organization as an international humanitarian partner for our country was underlined. It was noted that the role of the ICRC is of great importance for Azerbaijan, which is in the state of war and the activity of Baku office of the organization is commendable. The Chairman of the State Committee gave detailed information on the work carried out under the leadership of the President Ilham Aliyev to address the social problems of refugees and IDPs and improve their housing and living conditions. He noted that consistent and purposeful projects are being implemented in this direction at the initiative of the First Vice President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva. The Chairman of the State Committee expressed concern over Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev, who were taken hostage by the Armenian Armed Forces when they went to their homeland to visit the graves of their relatives in the occupied Kalbajar region and were not returned yet. Elena Aymone Sessera, the Head of the ICRC Representative Office in Azerbaijan, spoke about the overall work principle and activities of Azerbaijan Office. She gave detailed information about the projects carried out by the organization in the villages located near the frontline and highly appreciated the activities of the local structures in this direction. The prospects of bilateral cooperation and issues of mutual interest were discussed at the meeting.
