Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs Fuad Huseynov and head of Zangilan Region Executive Power Ramiz Hasanov thanked the delegation for coming to the meeting to familiarize on the spot with the conditions created by the state of Azerbaijan for our compatriots living as internally displaced persons for many years as a result of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. It was noted that Azerbaijan was subjected to military aggression by Armenia as a result of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. As a result, 20% of our territory, our historical lands - Nagorno-Karabakh and 7 surrounding regions were occupied. Ethnic cleansing policy was implemented in these areas and over one million Azerbaijani became refugees and internally displaced persons. Then the guests visited Zangilan region complete secondary school No. 33 with the capacity of 540 students in the neighborhood. It was stated during the conversation with the teachers of the school that the model of Azerbaijan created as a result of the successful policy pursued by the President Ilham Aliyev has already been appreciated by influential international organizations. It was noted that 968 internally displaced families temporarily settled in this neighborhood and they will return to their native lands after the liberation of our territories from occupation. IDPs provided with new apartments herein previously resided in dormitories as well. In order to improve the living conditions of our compatriots living in more difficult conditions, 97 modern-type settlements with all such necessary social and technical infrastructure have been built in various parts of the country and 265,000 people have been relocated to those settlements. The Azerbaijani government undertook all the problems of these people who left their native lands. The internally displaced persons stated that all conditions had been created for them by the Azerbaijani government, but nevertheless they wanted to return to their native lands.
