Rovshan Rzayev, Chairman of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons of the Republic of Azerbaijan, met with Mrs. Ugochi Daniels, IOM Deputy Director General for Operations of the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The meeting was also attended by Amr Taha, acting head of the IOM representative office in Azerbaijan, Rania Sharshr, director of the IOM Climate Action Division, and Tatia Khubulava, responsible for communications.
Guests were provided with detailed information on the activities of the State Committee, including measures implemented as the part of the 1st State Program for the Great Return and the current state of affairs regarding resettlement in areas freed from occupation into resettled and rebuilt settlements, as well as the efforts made to address the socioeconomic issues facing refugees and previously internally displaced people.
It was observed that among the top goals of President Ilham Aliyev’s social policy are enhancing the social protection of refugees and internally displaced people as well as efficiently managing the return process. First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva also pays special attention to issues relating to people in this category and constantly keeps in mind the implementation of measures to improve their welfare.
It was come to light that one of the top priorities for the reconstruction process, according to the Azerbaijani government, is to establish “green energy zones” inside the liberated areas.
Mrs. Ugochi Daniels expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome. It was said that the organization is prepared to assist with community development, job concerns, and the conversion of liberated territories into green zones. It is also willing to contribute its global experience in the field of internal migration.
Mutually beneficial topics were covered at the conference, and potential for collaboration was assessed.
