Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs Rovshan Rzayev met with EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar visiting Baku.
The guest was informed about the main directions of the state policy pursued in the field of work with refugees and IDPs in our country under the guidance of the President Ilham Aliyev. It was noted that particular attention is paid to addressing their social problems. It was underlined that the First Vice President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva treats in a sensitive and caring way to this category of citizens. It was stated that the vast majority of IDPs want to return to the territories liberated last year - to their permanent places of residence. The voluntary return process will begin once secure and decent living conditions are provided in those territories. Government agencies are currently working to address related issues under the President`s instructions.
The views were exchanged on various aspects of international practice in addressing issues related to refugees and IDPs and their application in our country.
EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar thanked for the warm welcome. He emphasized the importance of clearing the liberated territories of mines and other explosive ordnance.
Issues of mutual interest were discussed at the meeting.
