On January 16, Deputy Chairman of The State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and IDPs Fuad Huseynov met with Taras Kuzio, researcher of the Henry Jackson Society, an independent analytical center of Great Britain, professor of the National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”, who was on a visit to our country.

The guest was provided with detailed information about the policy of occupation and deportation of Armenia and the situation of our compatriots, who became refugees and internally displaced persons as a result. It was noted that former internally displaced persons are always surrounded by the attention and care of the Azerbaijani state under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev. First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva is also particularly sensitive to the solution of their social problems.

It was brought to the attention that after the liberation in 2020 of our territories that had been under occupation for almost 30 years, new realities have emerged in the region, and measures have begun to reintegrate refugees and internally displaced persons to their homeland. It was reported that modern technologies are being used in the liberated territories, new residential areas are being built based on the concepts of “smart village” and “smart city”. 66 families settled in Aghali village of Zangilan region, built on the basis of this concept, and another 113 families are planned to be resettled this year. In addition, the mining by Armenia of territories where large-scale projects are being implemented in the territories liberated from occupation, but not having a military purpose slows down the return of internally displaced persons to their native lands.

The guest was informed that the “I State Program for the Great Return of the Territories Liberated from the Occupation of the Republic of Azerbaijan”, approved by the Presidential Decree in November last year, determines the measures taken towards the reconstruction and restoration of the territories liberated from the occupation.
