On October 23, Rovshan Rzayev, Chairman of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, met with newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Swiss Confederation to Azerbaijan Ms. Muriel Peneveyre. Chairman of the State Committee congratulated the ambassador on her new appointment and wished success in her activity in our country.
The newly appointed diplomat was informed in detail about the history and current situation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. It was reported that Armenia continues its occupation policy, resulting in more than 1 million 200,000 people still lives as refugees and displaced persons in the country.
It was noted that in addition to liberating our lands from the occupation, the Azerbaijani state is also purposefully working towards addressing social problems of refugees and IDPs. According to the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, new settlements are built to improve living conditions of IDPs. At the same time, Head of State pays special attention to improving welfare of the citizens from this category and to ensuring employment. First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva pays special attention to IDPs living in the most difficult conditions and takes necessary measures to relocate them to new apartments.
The State Committee Chairman recalled the projects implemented by the Swiss Development and Cooperation Agency Representative Office in Azerbaijan for the IDPs in our country and expressed his gratitude. It was noted that such projects are not only material but also a great moral support for IDPs.
The newly appointed Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to Azerbaijan Muriel Peneveyre expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome. The ambassador noted the friendly relations between the two countries and expressed her satisfaction with the work in such a country.
Other issues of mutual interest were discussed at the meeting.
