On April 30, Chairman of the State Committee on Deals of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons Rovshan Rzayev met with the Director of Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre Alexandra Bilak on a visit in our country.
Chairman of the State Committee informed the guest about the deprivations more than 1 million 200 thousand of our compatriots, who became refugees and internally displaced persons as a result of Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, faced, material and moral losses they suffered, attitudes of international organizations towards the solution of this problem, the works done by our state within the framework of its own capabilities and the upcoming tasks.
It was noted that a purposive and effective state policy on the work with regard to refugees and internally displaced persons is carried out in Azerbaijan. President Ilham Aliyev considered improving housing-living conditions of the internally displaced persons and increasing their material wellbeing as one of the priorities of the social policy. First Vice President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva carries out purposeful work on the solution of the problems of internally displaced persons.
The guests were provided with detailed information about the labour fairs held in order to ensure the employment of internally displaced persons, as well as campaigns held for providing them with high-quality medical services in the places where they were temporarily settled.
Alexandra Bilak, Director of Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre located in Geneva, highly appreciated the state policy in the field of work with refugees and internally displaced persons in Azerbaijan and the works done to solve their social problems, and pointed out that existing experience in the country is an example in the world.
A.Bilak, providing information about the centre, said that the centre compiles the Global Report on Internal Displacement every year. The report provides the latest statistical information and information on the situations in the countries, as well as thematic and political analysis. The Global Report also discloses the number of internally displaced persons as a result of conflicts and natural disasters in the world. The report uses the statistical information and analyzes provided on the displacements inside the country by states, international organizations, international non-governmental organizations, journalists, and academic circles as the main information source.
Views were exchanged on the issues of mutual interest in the meeting. Director of the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre Alexandra Bilak expressed her gratitude for the reception.
