On February 27, Andres Pastrana Arango, President of the Centrist Democrat International, former President of Colombia met with IDPs in Baku within his visit to Azerbaijan. Fuad Huseynov, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs informed the guest about the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, its historical roots and current state. It was noted that as a result of the conflict more than 1 million people had to leave their homeland and settle in dormitories, schools, kindergartens and other administrative buildings. Armenia still does not implement 4 UN Security Council resolutions on immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian armed forced from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. It was indicated that improvement of the housing and living conditions of refugees and IDPs, who are facing severe deprivation, and solution of their social problems are in the center of attention of the President Ilham Aliyev. The head of state takes necessary measures to improve the material wellbeing of the citizens of this category. The First Vice President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva oversees the execution of the instruction given by her about the relocation of IDPs living under the most severe and life-threatening conditions to new apartments in the first place. The guest was informed that in April 2016, the Azerbaijani army liberated a part of our territories with counterattack by preventing the next sabotage of Armenia. During this operation, Jojug Marjanli, the liberated village of Jabrayil was reconstructed and supplied with necessary infrastructure facilities by the instruction of the President Ilham Aliyev. It was noted that this village, which is a symbol of the unbending spirit of the Azerbaijani army, is also the beginning of the return of Azerbaijani people to their historical lands. Andres Pastrana, President of the Centrist Democrat International, former President of Colombia highly appreciated the state care provided to IDPs in Azerbaijan. According to him, conditions created for citizens of this category are praiseworthy. At the same time, it was underlined that Colombia is also one of the countries with refugee and IDP problem and can use Azerbaijan`s practice in this field. Andres Pastrana Arango sincerely talked with IDPs temporarily settled in Yasamal district and Masazir settlement of Absheron district and got acquainted with their living conditions. Sevinj Fataliyeva, MP, deputy chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on International Affairs and Interparliamentary Relations, attended the meetings.
