On November 8, Rovshan Rzayev, the Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs, met with Toivo Klaar, the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus. The Chairman of the State Committee noted that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the establishment and development of sustainable relations based on mutual respect and trust with the European Union. Underlining the importance of effective participation of European countries in the fair settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Chairman of the Committee gave detailed information about the losses and deprivations faced by our people as a result of the conflict. It was noted that as a result of the conflict more than 1 million 200 thousand of our compatriots were displaced from their homeland and forced to live in severe conditions. Four resolutions of the UN Security Council demanding immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the occupied territories and decisions and resolutions of other international organizations remain only on the paper. International organizations should increase their activities to restore the violated rights of IDPs and territorial integrity of our country The guests were informed that the issue of addressing the social problems of IDPs living in different regions of the country is always in the center of attention. The instructions given by the President Ilham Aliyev to improve the material well-being of IDPs and ensure their employment are being fulfilled. The First Vice President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva personally oversees the implementation of the instruction about the IDPs settled in the worst conditions and damaged buildings. Toivo Klaar, the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus highly appreciated the current state of cooperation between the European Union and Azerbaijan. The guest said that he will use all reasonable endeavors to expand these relations. At the same time, it was underlined that the activities related to IDPs will be increased. Views were exchanged on various issues at the meeting.
