On October 30, Rovshan Rzayev, the Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs met with a delegation of students of Franklin University, Switzerland who are on a mission in Baku. The guests were informed about the historical roots and current state of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict at the meeting. It was noted that in the late 80s of the last century, Armenia raised territorial claims against our country and later, they occupied 20% of our lands by military aggression. 4 resolutions on immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the occupier from those territories adopted by the UN Security Council 25 years ago, as well as decisions of other international organizations, are not being implemented. As a result of Armenia`s policy of occupation, more than 1 million Azerbaijanis had to live as refugees and IDPs, and experienced physical, moral and material deprivation. The Chairman of the State Committee said that the President Ilham Aliyev defined the issues related to IDPs as one of the priorities of social policy that is successfully implemented in our country. The First Vice President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva treats the problems of IDPs very sensitively, and personally controls the implementation of the instruction she gave about relocation of IDPs living under severe conditions in Baku and Sumgait to new apartments in the first place. The Swiss students were informed in detail about the state youth policy carried out in our country under the leadership of the President Ilham Aliyev and its successful results. It was noted that State Programs are being implemented to raise the level of education, employment and for solution of other socio-economic problems of the youth. It was stated that there are numerous public organizations of youth operating in the country, Azerbaijani youth raise their voice of truth in international events and defend its fair position. It was noted that Azerbaijan is one of the exemplary countries in terms of respect for multicultural values. It was stated that representatives of different religions and nations live in a friendly environment in our country. There are mosques, churches and synagogues in different parts of the country and the state gives a particular attention and care to them. Later the guests viewed the models of the camp sites, pre-fab house settlements, dormitories and newly built settlements where the IDPs lived after they left their homeland. It was noted that modern settlements are being built for the citizens who found temporary shelters in the buildings not having normal living conditions in the early years of displacement.
