Rovshan Rzayev, the Chairman of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and IDPs met with Serhan Aktoprak, the Head of the Representative Office of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Azerbaijan. The Chairman of the State Committee underlined that the issue of refugees and IDPs has become a global problem and Azerbaijan has been facing this problem for 30 years, and more than a million of our compatriots have been displaced from their homeland as a result of Armenia`s aggressive policy. It was noted that the President Ilham Aliyev always focuses on the solution of the problems of refugees and IDPs as one of the priorities of the Azerbaijani government. Large-scale programs are being implemented in this direction at the initiative of the First Vice President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva. Consistent and purposeful measures are being taken to improve the living and housing conditions of IDPs living in severe conditions and damaged buildings. The Chairman of the State Committee thanked IOM for the projects they implemented for refugees and IDPs in Azerbaijan. Serhan Aktoprak highly appreciated the measures taken by the Azerbaijani government to address the social problems of IDPs. He expressed his satisfaction about being a participant in the projects implemented by IOM for IDPs in Azerbaijan. Views on the issues related with current and future partnership and prospects of mutual cooperation were exchanged between the State Committee and IOM during the meeting.
