On June 11, Rovshan Rzayev, the Chairman of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and IDPs, met with Rupert Ainley, the Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Directorate of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The Chairman of the State Committee informed the guest in detail about the work done to address the social problems of over one million IDPs who were forced to leave their homeland as a result of the occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia and improve their living conditions. It was noted that important steps are being taken by the President Ilham Aliyev towards the solution of social problems of refugees and IDPs and improvement of their living conditions. The First Vice President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva also takes consistent and purposeful measures in this area. As a result, nearly 300 thousand IDPs were provided with new apartments. It was noted that IDPs temporarily settled in different parts of the country started to return to their homeland with the return of people from Jojug Marjanli village of Jabrayil region to their homes. According to the Order of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the restoration of Jojug Marjanli, 50 houses were built and put into use in the village within the first stage. Residents of the village settled in different parts of the country were relocated to 50 houses out of 100 built within the second stage. IDPs continue to return to Jojug Marjanli. Rupert Ainley, the Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Directorate of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office underlined that he attaches a great importance to the strengthening of strategic cooperation between his country and Azerbaijan. He stated that humanitarian organizations of the UK are interested in implementing projects related to IDPs in Azerbaijan hereafter as well. The issues of mutual interest were discussed at the meeting.
