A commemorative event dedicated to the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide was held at the State Committee with the participation of a group of internally displaced persons from Khojaly.
The memory of those who were martyred in defense of Azerbaijan’s independence, territorial integrity, and constitutional order was honored with a minute of silence.
Chairman of the State Committee Rovshan Rzayev stated that the Khojaly Genocide is one of the most horrific and tragic pages in Azerbaijan’s history and represents another stage in the centuries-long ethnic hostility carried out by Armenian nationalists against our people. It was noted that the brutal massacre committed in Khojaly on the night of February 25–26, 1992, by Armenian armed groups with the participation of the 366th regiment of the former Soviet army, is one of the gravest crimes committed against humanity.
At the event, video reels about the Khojaly genocide and the Great Return were presented.
It was noted that restoration and reconstruction works in the Khojaly district are currently ongoing. To date, hundreds of former internally displaced persons have been permanently settled in the city of Khojaly, as well as in the villages of Khanyurdu, Tazabina, Shushakend, Badara, Dashbulaq, Khanabad, Seyidbeyli, and Ballica, and their number will continue to grow.
