Fuad Huseynov, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, met with John Tucker, temporarily acting as Political Adviser at the US Embassy in Azerbaijan.
It was noted that President Ilham Aliyev identified the solution of the problems of former IDPs as one of the priorities of social policy. First Vice President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva also pays particular attention and care to the solution of education and health problems of IDPs, and is doing important work in this area.
Fuad Huseynov stated that the vast majority of IDPs intend to return to the liberated territories - their permanent places of residence.
It was also underlined that Armenia has ruined the territories it has occupied for almost thirty years and tried to destroy the material and moral heritage of the Azerbaijani people created in East Zangazur and Karabakh for centuries.
At present, security measures are being taken in the liberated territories, infrastructure projects are being implemented, and "smart village", "smart city" projects will be given priority.
Fuad Huseynov emphasized that Azerbaijan demanded that Armenia take the necessary measures to ensure the rapid, safe and effective demining of the liberated areas in the UN International Court of Justice.
John Tucker thanked for the warm welcome. He noted that the policy pursued by the Azerbaijani government on IDPs was praiseworthy. John Tucker recalled his meeting with National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the 1990s with special and pleasant memories. Expressing admiration for the development and beauty of Azerbaijan since independence, the guest particularly underlined that this work was carried out skillfully and consistently by Ilham Aliyev, a worthy successor of National Leader Heydar Aliyev.
