The State Committee held a meeting
Görüşlər 25 November, 2021

Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons Fuad Huseynov met with representatives of the Swiss international consulting company “Senogles&Co” Jeffrey Senaglis, Elli Senaglis and Svetlana Ksenofonova.

It was noted that President Ilham Aliyev identified addressing the problems of IDPs as one of the priorities of social policy. First Vice President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva also pays particular attention and care to the solution of housing, education and health problems of citizens from this category, and important work is being done in this area.

Fuad Huseynov also added that the living conditions of more than 300,000 IDPs have been improved in the country, and 116 settlements meeting modern standards have been built for them so far. Particular attention is paid to the social protection of IDPs, they receive a single monthly allowance and benefit from educational, health and a number of public services.

Significant measures have been taken to address the social problems of IDPs and strengthen their social protection, and the funds allocated for such measures are a great burden on the state budget.

Fuad Huseynov spoke in detail about the occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia, the severe humanitarian crisis in the country, the destruction of numerous socio-economic facilities and serious damage to the country`s economy, as well as devastation of historical and cultural monuments of the Azerbaijani people.

The guests were informed in detail about the 44-day Patriotic War and the rehabilitation and reconstruction work carried out in the liberated territories.

According to the President, it is very important to accurately determine the damage caused to our country by Armenia's occupation of Azerbaijani lands for about 30 years. In this regard, it is planned to file a lawsuit against Armenia in international courts and take appropriate steps to receive compensation through international judicial proceedings.

It was also noted that a survey was conducted among IDPs, and the vast majority of them are determined to return to their native lands. All necessary measures are being taken to ensure the sustainable settlement of IDPs in those areas. They underlined the importance of clearing the area of mines in order to accelerate the rehabilitation and reconstruction work and begin the safe return of IDPs to their native lands.

Fuad Huseynov stated that Armenia has mined large areas of Azerbaijani lands, including non-military territories, which kept occupied for almost 30 years. So far, Armenia has grossly violated fundamental human rights, especially the right to life, by refusing to hand over the mine maps in full. The Deputy Chairman of the State Committee underlined that Azerbaijan demanded Armenia to take the necessary measures to quickly, safely and effectively clear the liberated areas of mines in the UN International Court of Justice. The court must demand Armenia to immediately stop endangering the lives of Azerbaijani people by mining or helping to mine Azerbaijani territories.

Jeffrey Senaglis thanked for the warm welcome and congratulated on the victory in the Patriotic War. He said that he had visited the liberated territories and was disappointed to see the destroyed houses and settlements. He expressed confidence that the liberated territories will be restored by the Azerbaijani government in a short time and underlined the importance of determining the damage caused by the occupation.

Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Social Development Fund for Internally Displaced Persons and Baker Tilli Azerbaijan attended the event. The guests thanked the State Committee for detailed information.

Issues of mutual interest were discussed at the meeting.
