Chairman of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons of the Republic of Azerbaijan Rovshan Rzayev met with a delegation led by Roman Naudins, Chairman of the Group for the Promotion of Cooperation between the Seimas of the Republic of Latvia and the Parliament of Azerbaijan, who is visiting our country.

Informing the guests about the main directions of the state policy in the field of work with refugees and IDPs under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the chairman of the State Committee said that special attention was paid to solving their social problems, necessary measures were continued to improve their housing conditions and increase employment opportunities. It was noted that First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva also showed a sensitive and caring attitude to these issues.

It was noted that as a result of the 44-day Patriotic War against aggressor Armenia last year, Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity and ended the 30-year conflict. The absolute majority of IDPs who were separated from their homeland intend to return to their places of permanent residence. The return process, which will be carried out on a voluntary basis, will begin after security and decent living conditions are ensured in those areas.

An appeal was made to put pressure on Armenia to provide a map of the mined areas. It was stated that two journalists and a civil servant were killed in a mine blast in Kalbajar region a few days ago while on duty. It was noted that all three of them were children of families who left their home as a result of Armenia’s policy of ethnic discrimination and aggression.

The guests thanked for the warm welcome. Roman Naudins, Chairman of the Group for the Promotion of Cooperation between the Seimas of the Republic of Latvia and the Parliament of Azerbaijan, expressed satisfaction with his visit to his Fatherland Azerbaijan. He said Latvia has always supported Azerbaijan.
